The generation today is itself called as mobile generation. This is because everything, in the sense, every electronic item has shrunk in its size. Such mobile devices that can be easily held in our hands and kept into our pockets are either called as handheld devices or palm devices. PDAs
PDA is an abbreviation of Personal Digital Assistant. It is a small mobile handheld device that can be easily carried along and kept in the pockets. These PDAs were originally devised to work as personal organisers but later on with time these became much more versatile. These PDA devices are sometimes also known as pocket computers or palmtop computers due to their features similar to a Pocket PC. You can perform many different applications on a PDA just like with a computer. Thus, these PDAs surely resemble a computer that is small in size. The latest PDAs today come with colour screens and various other attachments that make them fit to be used as a mobile phone. These PDAs with an attachment of a mobile phone is called a smartphone.
PDA usually has the many useful features that make it a unique device. A few of its features include calculator, calendar and a clock, address book and notepad. You can even play computer games on a PDA along with using it as a portable media player. A PDA can easily play music and video along with recording the same. You can even access the Internet through a PDA, send and receive mails and other data via the WI-FI technology. A few other applications include word processing, typewriting, writing on spreadsheets, radio and also as Global Positioning System or GPS.

Touch Screen:
The main feature of a PDA is its touch screen. Usual handheld devices have buttons for use while a PDA has very less buttons and has a touch screen with a virtual keyboard. These virtual keyboards on the screen can be activated using a stylus that works like a finger. The stylus is detachable into the body of the PDA itself. You just have to tap the stylus onto the screen to activate the menu choices or the buttons.
Memory Cards:
Many PDAs today come with a slot for memory cards. In these slots extra memory chips can be inserted that provide additional memory space to the device. You can store your important data into these memory chips and remove it when required.
Connectivity:
PDAs have a infrared connectivity port to connect to other PDA or a device that has an infrared port for connectivity. It also has a Bluetooth wireless connectivity by which you can connect to any other device with Bluetooth connectivity in it.
